Summary

The selected candidate is expected to develop research focused on external geodynamics, especially on processes involved in landscape evolution and global changes. Studies related to coastal zones, river systems, slope evolution, climate change, and associated hazards are considered particularly relevant. The connection of these themes with territorial planning, especially nature conservation from a geoconservation perspective, will also be considered. The contractor should demonstrate skills to ensure the teaching of topics related to external geodynamics, such as stratigraphy, sedimentology, geomorphology, landscape resources, or natural hazards, as well as more general units in the scientific area. The candidate should have an undergraduate degree in Geology and PhD and advanced training primarily in a theme or themes related to external geodynamics. There are numerous opportunities and needs for research dedicated to the listed topics. The coastal zone, especially the northern sector of Portugal, has been the focus of pioneering studies developed by the University of Minho since the early 1980s. The research results have had wide application in the management of this rapidly evolving area. In parallel, studies related to the evolution of river and mountain systems have been relevant, more recently focused on acquiring data related to climate change. The selected candidate will be responsible for teaching curricular units integrated in bachelor and master degrees offered by the Earth Sciences Department, such as Geomorphology, Sedimentology, Stratigraphy, Environmental Geology, or Landscape Resources. Supervision of master and PhD students is also expected to be assumed by the selected candidate. Over the last decade, there has been the retirement of several dedicated teachers/researchers in external geodynamics, and the retirement of another teacher/researcher is expected soon. The loss of these teachers also compromises the teaching of a significant number of courses that make up the BSc in Geology, Biology and Geology, Environmental Sciences, the Master in Geosciences, and the Master in Environmental Sciences and Technologies. Therefore, the teaching staff will soon consist solely of two teachers for these research and teaching tasks, so filling the position is urgent.

Beneficiaries

Within the scope of the Recovery and Resilience Plan, two types of beneficiaries are responsible for carrying out the projects and using the funding provided. Due to their similar role, the reference to these two types of beneficiaries has been simplified and unified under the term "Beneficiary".
The two types are::
  • Direct Beneficiaries are those whose funding and projects to implement are part of the Recovery and Resilience Plan that has been negotiated and approved by the European Union;
  • Final Beneficiaries are those whose funding and projects to implement are approved following a selection process through Calls for Applications.

Call for applications

As part of the Call for Applications, submissions are requested to select the projects and final beneficiaries to whom funding will be awarded. Specific selection criteria are defined for each call, which must be reflected in the applications submitted and assessed.

The project is appraised on the basis of its compliance with the selection criteria laid down in the calls for applications, and a final score may be awarded, where applicable.

Final evaluation score

8,3
Important note

The components for calculating the assessment score can be found in the selection criteria document mentioned below.

Selection criteria
