Job description : With this Assistant Professor position, we expect to extend the research activities of FEUP/DEI and of INESC TEC in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology, with research and development of new methods, tools, and technologies to analyze and interpret biological data, and to contribute to novel solutions and discoveries that can advance the scientific knowledge, understanding of life and help to explain the causes of diseases.We expect contributions and teaching regarding advanced courses in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology (in FEUP DEI’s main Master’s Program in Informatics and Computing Engineering, and in the Doctoral Program in Informatics Engineering), to the supervision of MSc and PhD students in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology topics, and to cutting edge research on techniques for Bioinformatics and Computational Biology.We expect the preparation of project proposals, both national and European, mainly involving Bioinformatics and Computational Biology and research results to be published in top-level conferences and journals. Scientific profile : PhD degree in Informatics Engineering, Computer Science, or Electrical and Computer Engineering, and with an emphasis on Bioinformatics (algorithms, computational models, information retrieval) and Computational Biology. Rationale for the need to hire : This position will extend the FEUP’s faculty Informatics Engineering Department background in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology and research in this domain. The Master´s and Ph.D. programs at DEI aim to expand its courses on Bioinformatics and Computational Biology and to expand in conjunction with the Chemical Engineering Department of FEUP its Master programs with a Master Program in Bioinformatics Engineering in preparation while developing strong links of those courses with research activities on Bioinformatics and Computational Biology. An Assistant Professor with a strong background in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology would provide the department with the scientific profile for the required research activities and prepare young generations for Bioinformatics and Computational Biology.
Beneficiaries
The two types are::
- Direct Beneficiaries are those whose funding and projects to implement are part of the Recovery and Resilience Plan that has been negotiated and approved by the European Union;
- Final Beneficiaries are those whose funding and projects to implement are approved following a selection process through Calls for Applications.
Call for applications
As part of the Call for Applications, submissions are requested to select the projects and final beneficiaries to whom funding will be awarded. Specific selection criteria are defined for each call, which must be reflected in the applications submitted and assessed.
The project is appraised on the basis of its compliance with the selection criteria laid down in the calls for applications, and a final score may be awarded, where applicable.
Final evaluation score
The components for calculating the assessment score can be found in the selection criteria document mentioned below.
