Job DescriptionThe prospective employee will lead and participate in innovative research and development projects within the field of Communications Networks and Services. Responsibilities will include the design, analysis, and implementation of cutting-edge network architectures, protocols, mechanisms, algorithms, and services that can efficiently support current and future telecommunications demands, namely targeting 6G and beyond networks and services. The role involves collaboration with academic and industry partners as well as end-users, at national and international levels, to develop solutions that enhance the performance, reliability and scalability of communications networks. Additionally, the prospective employee will contribute to the teaching and supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students within the telecommunications scientific area, fostering the next generation of telecommunications experts. Scientific ProfileThe prospective employee must possess a Ph.D. Electrical Engineering (Telecommunications), or a closely related field, with a strong focus on communications networks, namely in wireless networks. A publication record in top-tier journals and conferences in the field is also required. The prospective employee should demonstrate expertise in one or more of the following areas: wireless networks, non-terrestrial networks, network simulation, and network performance optimization and machine learning applied to communications. Experience with grant writing, research and developments projects, project management, and the ability to secure research funding is highly desirable. RationaleThe telecommunications domain is undergoing rapid evolution, driven by technological advancements and an ever-increasing demand for higher bandwidth, lower latency, and more reliable communication services. Innovations in 5G, 6G and beyond networks, Internet of Things (IoT), and Non-Terrestrial Networks are critical for supporting these demands, leading to specialized expertise in these areas. Hiring a candidate with a strong scientific profile in Communications Networks and Services will enable our university to remain at the forefront of telecommunications research and education. This addition to our staff will not only enhance our research capabilities but also enrich our academic offerings, preparing students to excel in a highly competitive and changing technological landscape. Furthermore, the ability to collaborate effectively with industry partners and end-users will bridge the gap between academic research and practical applications, fostering innovation, technological advancement, and societal and economic impact. The proposed position is therefore essential for maintaining the institution´s reputation as a leader in telecommunications education and research, contributing significantly to the development of cutting-edge technologies that address the challenges of modern communications networks.
Beneficiaries
The two types are::
- Direct Beneficiaries are those whose funding and projects to implement are part of the Recovery and Resilience Plan that has been negotiated and approved by the European Union;
- Final Beneficiaries are those whose funding and projects to implement are approved following a selection process through Calls for Applications.
Call for applications
As part of the Call for Applications, submissions are requested to select the projects and final beneficiaries to whom funding will be awarded. Specific selection criteria are defined for each call, which must be reflected in the applications submitted and assessed.
The project is appraised on the basis of its compliance with the selection criteria laid down in the calls for applications, and a final score may be awarded, where applicable.
