This position is intended for a researcher working on narratives around which communities identify, considering their importance in the shared memory of these communities. The post is open to researchers working in different fields and/or historical periods, namely considering the memories of empires, colonialism and/or the traumatic or heroic memories of communities, ideas of greatness and decadence, narratives of violence and their relationship to the political projects they address and also the relations between heritage and local communities. Different types of narrative will be considered whether epics, memorials, material heritage or those found in legal sources. Methodologies that use discourse analysis and historiography (including the writing of history) will be favoured. Preference will be given to applications that favour international dimensions in their analysis. This position was conceived within the strategic line “Heritage and Memory”, of the NOVA FCSH, and it allows a fruitful dialogue with other strategic priorities, such as those considered in research axes “Territories and sustainable environments” and “Arts and Humanities”, as well as with several research units and departments (History, Political Studies, Anthropology, Sociology). Requirements: 1. PhD degree in History, Arts, Archaeology or Social Sciences 2. Specific expertise on text analysis, iconographic analysis or archaeological data analysis. 3. Recognized experience in participating of research projects, including projects with competitive and external funding. 4. Relevant experience in team coordination, in the context of research projects and/or managerial responsibilities 5. Outstanding research qualities demonstrated through an established track record of relevant publications, including peer-reviewed, international journals, books and other relevant outlets. 6. Proven experience in interdisciplinary/multidisciplinary teams, either as project leader and/or team member 7. Active member of relevant networks (academic and non-academic) in the research topics covered 8. Strong focus on societal engagement and knowledge exchange with relevant stakeholders and society in general. Rationale In the context of the RUs, the relevance of this position translates, in scientific terms, into the consolidation of research – transversal and multidisciplinary – which is a hallmark of NOVA FCSH’s own historiographical research since its foundation. Additionally, impact activities aimed at the non-specialised public and the public sphere have been deeply rooted in this area of research, where there is a track record of partnerships. This position considers NOVA FCSH strategic lines, with special relevance in the following axes: Values, Governance and Citizenship; Memory, Heritage and Cultural Heritage; the focus on the impact of cultural events on disseminating research outcomes to the broader public, are particularly relevant in this context.
