iNOVA4Health FCT Research Unit is seeking a highly qualified and motivated researcher for a position specializing in Cell Biology of Retinal Disorders with main expertise in the membrane trafficking defect in human diseases. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting cutting-edge research in the field of cell biology with a focus on relevant human diseases, particularly retinal disorders and will also contribute to teaching activities within iNOVA4Health at the graduate level. The researcher will contribute to the advancement of scientific knowledge and the development of innovative solutions in the field.Key Responsibilities:1) Innovative Research: Conduct research in the field of organelle biology coordinate research projects in health topics, particularly in Vision Research. Conduct innovative and impactful research in Cell Biology of eye diseases, with an emphasis on the molecular identification and characterization of membrane trafficking defects in retinal disorders. Utilize state-of-the-art imaging techniques and methodologies to analyse membrane trafficking defect using various cellular models, such as human cell lines, iPS derived lines and organoids.2) Education and Training Programs: Developing education and training programs into cell biology and membrane trafficking defect in human diseases at the graduate levels particularly master and PhD courses. Engage in the development of new courses and curriculum related to the cell biology of human diseases.3) Collaborative Research: Collaborate with internal teams and external partners, including interdisciplinary groups, to advance research projects. Participate in joint ventures that bridge the gap between basic science and translational medicine.4) Data Analysis and Reporting: Analyse experimental data using statistical methods. Prepare and present research findings at internal meetings and scientific conferences. Contribute to the writing of research papers for publication in high impact peer-reviewed journals.5) Mentorship and Supervision: Mentor and supervise junior researchers and students providing guidance on research projects and assisting with their academic and professional development.6) Funding: Contribute to the development of research proposals and funding applications.Scientific Profile:1) Ph.D. in Cell Biology or a related field.2) A strong publication record inorganelle biology , particularly in the context of human diseases.3) Expertise in state-of-the-art imaging techniques and methodologies such as super resolution imaging, high content image-based screening and electron microscopy.4) Expertise in producing and maintain adequate in vitro disease cellular models, such as iPS and organoids.5) Experience with drug discovery, pre-clinical studies, clinical sample analysis and collaboration with clinical researchers.6) Strong publication record in reputable scientific journals, demonstrating the ability to contribute novel insights to the field.7) Experience in supervising and co-supervising students.8) Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.9) Strong communication and interpersonal skills.Rationale for Hiring:The need for this position arises from the increasing importance of uncovering new therapeutic approaches to currently untreatable human diseases, particularly eye disorders. Call for applications
