The NOVA Institute for Medical Systems Biology (NIMSB) will hire a skilled and motivated Assistant Researcher with a strong background in Data Science. The successful candidate will develop and collaborate in innovative research projects using data science approaches in the context of systems biology and precision medicine research.Key Responsibilities:1) Innovative Research: Conduct innovative and impactful research using data science and artificial intelligence approaches in systems biology projects relevant for understanding disease mechanisms and to improve diagnosis, prognosis and monitoring treatment response.2) Advanced Methods: Development of data science and artificial intelligence methods applied to multiomics analysis and precision medicine, in particular to provide real-time feedback on efficacy and disease status.3) Data Science Service: Provide assistance on experimental design for experiments that require intensive analysis of large multiomics datasets.4) Education and Training Programs: Developing education and training programs in data science and artificial intelligence, aiming to prepare the next generation of researchers and healthcare workers in medical systems biology concepts.5) Collaborative Research: Collaborate with internal teams and external partners, including interdisciplinary groups, to advance research projects. Participate in joint ventures that bridge the gap between data science, multiomics and translational medicine.6) Data Analysis and Reporting: Analyse experimental data using statistical methods. Prepare and present research findings at internal meetings and scientific conferences. Contribute to the writing of research papers for publication in high impact peer-reviewed journals.7) Mentorship and Supervision: Mentor and supervise junior researchers and students. Provide guidance in experimental design, data analysis, and scientific writing.8) Funding: Contribute to the development of research proposals and funding applications.Scientific Profile:1) PhD in Bioinformatics, Data Science, Systems Biology, Molecular Biology or related relevant fields.2) Minimum of 10 years postdoctoral experience in Data Science.3) Demonstrated experience in data analysis of multiomics datasets.4) Proficiency in programming languages (R and Python).5) Demonstrated experience in collaboration with experimental researchers.6) Publication record in bioinformatics or data science.7) Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.8) Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.9) Strong communication and interpersonal skills.Rationale for Hiring:The capacity to analyse large datasets of multiomics data with data science and AI approaches is essential in data rich systems biology and precision medicine projects. Hiring an Assistant Researcher with expertise in this area is crucial for NIMSB to stay competitive and innovative in the global research landscape. This position will bridge the gap between computational approaches and precision medicine, aiming to discover novel disease biomarkers for diagnosis, prognosis and therapeutical decision. The Assistant Researcher will push the boundaries of current knowledge and contribute to the development of more precise therapies and better health care outcomes. This strategic hire will strengthen NIMSB research capacity at the core of its mission, will enable new collaborative projects, will secure research funding, and will enhance the institutional reputation as a leader in systems biology and precision medicine research.
Beneficiaries
The two types are::
- Direct Beneficiaries are those whose funding and projects to implement are part of the Recovery and Resilience Plan that has been negotiated and approved by the European Union;
- Final Beneficiaries are those whose funding and projects to implement are approved following a selection process through Calls for Applications.
Call for applications
As part of the Call for Applications, submissions are requested to select the projects and final beneficiaries to whom funding will be awarded. Specific selection criteria are defined for each call, which must be reflected in the applications submitted and assessed.
The project is appraised on the basis of its compliance with the selection criteria laid down in the calls for applications, and a final score may be awarded, where applicable.
Final evaluation score
The components for calculating the assessment score can be found in the selection criteria document mentioned below.
