Summary

The NOVA Institute for Medical Systems Biology (NIMSB) will hire a skilled and motivated Assistant Researcher with a strong background in Metabolomics. The successful candidate will lead technological development and innovative research projects using metabolomics approaches, with a focus on development of sensitive and specific assays to quantify small samples, applied to systems biology and precision medicine research. Key Responsibilities:1) Innovative Research: Conduct innovative and impactful research in metabolomics, with an emphasis on the identification and metabolites relevant to disease diagnosis, progression, and monitoring treatment response, crucial for optimizing therapeutic strategies.2) Advanced Methods: Development of sensitive metabolite isolation techniques and specific quantitative assays to quantify changes in small quantities of tissues during treatment to provide real-time feedback on efficacy and disease status.3) Metabolomics Service: Provide assistance on experimental design for metabolomics-based mass spectrometry experiments.4) Education and Training Programs: Developing education and training programs in metabolomics, aiming to prepare the next generation of researchers and healthcare workers in medical systems biology concepts.5) Collaborative Research: Collaborate with internal teams and external partners, including interdisciplinary groups, to advance research projects. Participate in joint ventures that bridge the gap between basic science and translational medicine.6) Data Analysis and Reporting: Analyse experimental data using statistical methods. Prepare and present research findings at internal meetings and scientific conferences. Contribute to the writing of research papers for publication in high impact peer-reviewed journals.7) Mentorship and Supervision: Mentor and supervise junior researchers and students. Provide guidance in experimental design, data analysis, and scientific writing.8) Funding: Contribute to the development of research proposals and funding applications. Scientific Profile:1) PhD in Biophysics, Pharmacy or related relevant fields.2) Minimum of 10 years postdoctoral experience in metabolomics.3) Demonstrated experience in state-of-the-art metabolomics techniques and methodologies, particularly in data analysis protocols.4) Demonstrated experience with clinical sample analysis and collaboration with clinical researchers.5) Publication record in metabolomics, particularly in translational clinical research.6) Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.7) Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.8) Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Rationale for Hiring:The field of Metabolomics is rapidly advancing, the latest instruments and highly sensitive methods allow for the analysis of very small samples, increasing dramatically the analytical potential for disease characterization at the molecular level. Hiring an Assistant Researcher with expertise in this area is crucial for NIMSB to stay competitive and innovative in the global research landscape. This position will bridge the gap between technology and translational medicine, aiming to discover novel disease biomarkers for diagnosis, prognosis and therapeutical decision. The Assistant Researcher will push the boundaries of current knowledge and contribute to the development of more precise therapies and better health care outcomes. This strategic hire will strengthen NIMSB research capacity at the core of its mission, will enable new collaborative projects, will secure research funding, and will enhance the institutional reputation as a leader in systems biology and precision medicine research.

Beneficiaries

Within the scope of the Recovery and Resilience Plan, two types of beneficiaries are responsible for carrying out the projects and using the funding provided. Due to their similar role, the reference to these two types of beneficiaries has been simplified and unified under the term "Beneficiary".
The two types are::
  • Direct Beneficiaries are those whose funding and projects to implement are part of the Recovery and Resilience Plan that has been negotiated and approved by the European Union;
  • Final Beneficiaries are those whose funding and projects to implement are approved following a selection process through Calls for Applications.

Call for applications

As part of the Call for Applications, submissions are requested to select the projects and final beneficiaries to whom funding will be awarded. Specific selection criteria are defined for each call, which must be reflected in the applications submitted and assessed.

The project is appraised on the basis of its compliance with the selection criteria laid down in the calls for applications, and a final score may be awarded, where applicable.

Final evaluation score

9,0
Important note

The components for calculating the assessment score can be found in the selection criteria document mentioned below.

Selection criteria

The funding selection criteria to which this project and its final beneficiary were subject and its score can be found in detail on the Recuperar Portugal platform.

Procurement

Beneficiaries representing public entities implement their project by signing one or more contracts with suppliers for goods or services through public procurement procedures.

To ensure and provide the utmost transparency in all these contracts, a list of the contracts that were signed under this project is available here, along with the information available on the Base.Gov platform. Please note that, according to the legislation in force at the time the contract was signed, some exceptions do not require the publication of the contracts signed on this platform, and, therefore, no information is available in such cases.
