Summary

The NOVA Institute for Medical Systems Biology (NIMSB) will hire a skilled and motivated Assistant Researcher with a strong background in Cell Biology, Regenerative Biology, and Regenerative Medicine. The successful candidate will lead innovative research projects focused on zebrafish models and/or human tissues and organoids to advance our understanding and capabilities in tissue regeneration and disease modelling. Key Responsibilities:1) Innovative Research: Lead and conduct cutting-edge research projects in regenerative biology, focusing on the use of micro-physiological systems, such as organoids, and zebrafish models. Develop and execute experimental protocols to study cellular and molecular mechanisms of tissue regeneration.2) Cell Biology: Apply advanced techniques in cell biology to investigate cellular responses and interactions during regeneration processes. Utilize methods such as cell culture, microscopy, flow cytometry, and molecular biology assays.3) Organoid Models: Develop and refine organoid models as in vitro systems for studying regenerative processes. Work on the cultivation, differentiation, and analysis of organoids derived from various cell types.4) Zebrafish Experimental System: Utilize zebrafish as a model organism for in vivo studies of tissue regeneration. Perform genetic, pharmacological, and surgical manipulations to study regenerative phenomena in zebrafish.5) Collaborative Research: Collaborate with internal teams and external partners, including interdisciplinary groups, to advance research projects. Participate in joint ventures that bridge the gap between basic science and translational regenerative medicine.6) Data Analysis and Reporting: Analyse experimental data using statistical methods. Prepare and present research findings at internal meetings and scientific conferences. Contribute to the writing of research papers for publication in high impact peer-reviewed journals.7) Mentorship and Supervision: Mentor and supervise junior researchers and students. Provide guidance in experimental design, data analysis, and scientific writing.8) Funding: Contribute to the development of research proposals and funding applications. Scientific Profile:1) PhD in Cell Biology, Developmental Biology, or a related field.2) Minimum of 10 years postdoctoral experience in regenerative biology, preferably with expertise in organoid technology or zebrafish models.3) Demonstrated experience with tissue culture, especially the cultivation and differentiation of stem cells into organoids.4) Proficiency in molecular biology techniques, including but not limited to qRT-PCR, Western blotting, immuno-histochemistry, and gene editing tools.5) Publication record in regenerative biology or related disciplines.6) Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.7) Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.8) Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Rationale for Hiring:The field of Regenerative Medicine is rapidly advancing, with the use of complex human organoids promising great translational potential and the use of animal models that have remarkable regenerative capabilities. Hiring an Assistant Researcher with expertise in at least one of these areas is crucial for NIMSB to stay competitive and innovative in the global research landscape. This position will bridge the gap between fundamental regenerative biology and translational medicine, aiming to discover novel therapeutic approaches for regenerative medicine and tissue engineering. The Assistant Researcher contributions will be essential in developing next-generation treatments for a variety of diseases and injuries where regenerative medicine can offer significant improvements in patient outcomes.By integrating the study of human organoids, which recapitulate the architecture and function of real tissues, with the regenerative power of zebrafish, this role will push the boundaries of current knowledge and contribute to the development of cutting-edge therapies. This strategic hire will strengthen NIMSB research capacity, enable new collaborative projects, secure research funding, and enhance the institutional reputation as a leader in systems biology and regenerative medicine research.

Beneficiaries

Within the scope of the Recovery and Resilience Plan, two types of beneficiaries are responsible for carrying out the projects and using the funding provided. Due to their similar role, the reference to these two types of beneficiaries has been simplified and unified under the term "Beneficiary".
The two types are::
  • Direct Beneficiaries are those whose funding and projects to implement are part of the Recovery and Resilience Plan that has been negotiated and approved by the European Union;
  • Final Beneficiaries are those whose funding and projects to implement are approved following a selection process through Calls for Applications.

Call for applications

As part of the Call for Applications, submissions are requested to select the projects and final beneficiaries to whom funding will be awarded. Specific selection criteria are defined for each call, which must be reflected in the applications submitted and assessed.

The project is appraised on the basis of its compliance with the selection criteria laid down in the calls for applications, and a final score may be awarded, where applicable.

Final evaluation score

8,2
Important note

The components for calculating the assessment score can be found in the selection criteria document mentioned below.

Selection criteria

The funding selection criteria to which this project and its final beneficiary were subject and its score can be found in detail on the Recuperar Portugal platform.

Procurement

Beneficiaries representing public entities implement their project by signing one or more contracts with suppliers for goods or services through public procurement procedures.

To ensure and provide the utmost transparency in all these contracts, a list of the contracts that were signed under this project is available here, along with the information available on the Base.Gov platform. Please note that, according to the legislation in force at the time the contract was signed, some exceptions do not require the publication of the contracts signed on this platform, and, therefore, no information is available in such cases.
