The selected candidate will develop a research agenda as an active member of Instituto de Filosofia da Nova (IFILNOVA) and will contribute to the development of NOVA FCSH strategic line on Society and Politics. IFILNOVA’s main purpose is to develop research programs focused upon conceptual analysis of values and construction of values at the ethical, political, aesthetic, and epistemological levels. The programs aim also to apply philosophical theories to social practices and problems. Given this overall strategic aim of investigating the nature of value and the role of values in human action, it is crucial for IFILNOVA to ensure the hiring of a candidate with a solid scientific background in the field of Philosophy of Values. The candidate should have a comprehensive view of the field, as well as expert knowledge of at least one of the following subfields: ethical values, political values, aesthetic values, or epistemic values. Expertise in these subfields may include: expertise in aesthetics, expertise in philosophy as ars vivendi, expertise in Schopenhauer, expertise in Nietzsche, expertise in environmental values, expertise in European Studies and values, expertise in ethics, expertise in political philosophy, expertise in social and ethically-driven epistemology and philosophy of language, expertise in analytic value theory. Scientific profile Candidates should present high level expertise in at least one subfield of the Philosophy of Values. We are looking for a candidate with an excellent curriculum devoted to the field of Philosophy of Value, who: i) has a PhD in Philosophy, ii) has an excellent record of international publications in indexed journals, but who iii) is also concerned with the dissemination of knowledge; iv) has played an active role in research projects, is or has been part of international projects in the research area described above, and therefore shows that is capable of forming fruitful collaborations with other researchers or institutions, and thus developing research projects in the future, attracting funding. Rationale The recruitment of an Assistant Researcher in the Philosophy of Value is scientifically relevant for both the Research Unit IFILNOVA and NOVA FCSH. IFILNOVA’s main goal is to develop fundamental research focused on questions concerning the nature of value, the role of values in human existence and their collective constitution in the ethical, political, aesthetic, and epistemic fields. The position of Assistant Researcher in Philosophy of Value is, thus, perfectly aligned with the institute’s research commitments, and it will consolidate IFILNOVA’s long term investigation on value.

Beneficiaries

Within the scope of the Recovery and Resilience Plan, two types of beneficiaries are responsible for carrying out the projects and using the funding provided. Due to their similar role, the reference to these two types of beneficiaries has been simplified and unified under the term "Beneficiary".
The two types are::
  • Direct Beneficiaries are those whose funding and projects to implement are part of the Recovery and Resilience Plan that has been negotiated and approved by the European Union;
  • Final Beneficiaries are those whose funding and projects to implement are approved following a selection process through Calls for Applications.

Call for applications

As part of the Call for Applications, submissions are requested to select the projects and final beneficiaries to whom funding will be awarded. Specific selection criteria are defined for each call, which must be reflected in the applications submitted and assessed.

The project is appraised on the basis of its compliance with the selection criteria laid down in the calls for applications, and a final score may be awarded, where applicable.
