A Public Policy Lab within an Economics and Management School serves crucial purposes of interdisciplinary collaboration and applied research and analysis. It will bridge the gap between theory and practice, academia and policymaking, and business and society, ultimately contributing to more informed, evidence-based, and socially responsible policy decisions. The expectations for the recruited research is to be at the forefront of a strategic reorganisation of ISEG’s contribution in the field of Public Policies. The Policy Lab will emerge as an outreach platform supporting and promoting the production of policy papers and initiatives linked to ISEG’s collaborations with external stakeholders, including the Institute of Public Policy (IPP) hosted by ISEG.This position is at the centre of interdisciplinary collaboration between public policy and disciplines such as economics, sociology, political science or law. This interdisciplinary approach allows for a more comprehensive understanding of complex societal issues and the development of holistic solutions. The Policy Lab provides a robust platform for conducting applied research and analysis on pressing public policy issues relevant to businesses, governments, and society at large. This research can inform policymakers, business leaders, and other stakeholders on evidence-based strategies and policies and have a direct impact on shaping public policy outcomes. This can involve advocating for specific policy changes, providing expert testimony, or consulting on policy implementation. As far as educational opportunities, it offers students valuable hands-on experience in policy analysis, research methodology, and stakeholder engagement. Through internships, fellowships, and research projects, students can apply theoretical knowledge to real-world challenges and develop skills relevant to careers in public policy, government, consulting, or advocacy.Together with the full set of new infrastructures to be developed at ISEG, the Policy Lab provides a space for experimenting with innovative policy solutions and evaluating their effectiveness through pilot projects or simulations. This allows for iterative learning and methodological experimentation. For Schools providing executive education to corporations or with a focus on corporate social responsibility, a Policy Lab can demonstrate a commitment to addressing societal challenges beyond profit-making activities. It aligns with the school´s mission to produce socially responsible business leaders who understand the importance of contributing to the common good.
