Summary

The goals of the HadronPET-3D project are as follows: 1. Develop a portable and advanced PET imaging system specifically tailored for verifying the particle beam range in hadron therapy facilities. 2. Design and construct a prototype of the HadronPET-3D system for in-beam testing and validation. 3. Implement state-of-the-art medical imaging technologies and techniques to enhance beam control accuracy and precision. 4. Conduct thorough in-beam testing to evaluate the performance and reliability of the HadronPET-3D system under realistic conditions. 5. Validate the efficacy and safety of the HadronPET-3D system in improving the effectiveness of hadron therapy treatments. 6. Ultimately, contribute to advancing the field of hadron therapy by providing a more accurate and reliable method for verifying particle beam ranges, thereby enhancing treatment outcomes and improving the quality of life for cancer patients. Furthermore, it is intended to: 1. Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of experts in medical physics, instrumentation engineering, and medical image processing to ensure the success of the project. 2. to deepen the general knowledge in the field of radiation detection physics, applied physics and physics, and biomedical engineering: 3. to provide a large opportunity for creative scientific work, as all parts in the project chain must be specifically developed for this specific new purpose - hadrontherapy; 4. to follow product-oriented research, envisaging the protection and possible licensing of the HadronPET.3D system and commercialization.
