Summary

INL is in operation since late 2010 and is one of the main research infrastructures in Europe dedicated to development of nanotechnology and nanoelectronics RTD activities applied to the nanomedicine, energy, food and environmental control sectors. INL is a result from a scientific cooperation program (in 2005) between the governments of Portugal and Spain. Both countries decided to create a global centre of excellence in applied nanotechnology research, aiming to attract the world’s best scientists and engineers. This integrated program addresses nanotechnology based solutions for challenges in two specific areas: 1) autonomous based sensing systems and their integration in the Internet of Things, and 2) water monitoring and treatment, food safety control, and advanced diagnostics system platforms and new drug delivery concepts. The integrated project is sub divided into two major research lines, 1) Nanotechnology based autonomous sensing systems, and 2) Nanotechnology enabled so
